Friday Inspiration – Dark Floral Trend

Home / Uncategorized / Friday Inspiration – Dark Floral Trend

Part of being a stylist is to keep an eye out for emerging fashion/interior trends and although floral prints have been around for a while recently I’ve noticed a shift from delicate romantic and pastel floral prints to dark and moody designs which I’ve long been a fan of. I started a Dark Florals Trend Board on Pinterest a while ago where I’ve been pinning lots of inspirational images which I’ve come across, like the pics above, so this weeks Friday Inspiration is all about this fabulous dark and handsome trend…

If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen the above pic of my current inspiration wall in my office…just some of my ideas for my upcoming shoots this Autumn / Winter. After a flurry of designers showing the dark side of florals in their A/W shows, I expect to see this trend hitting high street stores soon. I already spotted a few great items at Espirt

Love this all-over floral pattern sweatshirt and floral print racksack.

Espirt were also stocking a great pair of silky floral trousers with this pretty inky blue floral pattern above in their Summer 14 collection.

Typically fashion trends last a lot longer in our homes than in our wardrobes so if you want to give your home a little trend update don’t worry if your not sure how long these dark florals are sticking around… I’ve got a feeling this pretty moody vibe is here to stay for a good while … I’ve already seen a few home ranges sporting this style from M&S, H&M and lets not forget the dark and wonderfully flamboyant designs of House of Hackney!! So how do you translate this trend into your homes?

*You could add a dark floral print wallpaper feature wall and if your not convinced you want to go too dark, how about making a patchwork wall with mix and match wallpapers with a few darker designs thrown in.

*Make diy cushions using dark floral fabrics to adorn your bed or sofa, choose fabrics with black, charcoal, navy or deep mulberry backgrounds and all over floral patterns.

* Mix floral patterns with soft greys, dusky pinks and white to keep the look up to date and not too Gothic.

* Or simply buy some flowers in deep dark tones and arrange in the darkest vase you own.

What do you think of this trend? Have you started spotting dark floral prints everywhere you go I like I have?? Will you be wearing the look this A/W and are you planning to add this trend to your home decor?
